“If I cannot fly, let me sing.”
– Stephen Sondheim
If you have a voice, you have a musical instrument.
So, what will you do with it?
At Music Studio 78, we are committed to help you become the best singer that you can be.
We are proud to be the only studio backed by a world-class caliber vocal team in our community, and singing has been our way of seeing and experiencing the bigger world. Regardless of heritage, singing itself is a cultural bond and pastime shared by all genders and ages. Whether you are taking lessons to discover the joys of singing, or to prepare for higher ambitions or examinations, at our studio, we focus and build upon your personal motivation and goals, and shape that into artistic success.
Our Studio founder, Soprano Ying Li launched her career when she won the Bronze Award in the national "China Morning Star Singing Competition". Formerly a professor at Shenyang University, she then studied opera performance at the Brooklyn College of Music, and held a successful solo debut in New York in 2012. Principal instructor, Pang Xuan, mezzo-soprano, is a graduate of the Central Conservatory of Music in China and Manhattan Conservatory of Music in New York. She holds the silver medal in the German Art Song category in the 2013 International Vocal Arts Competition, and has successfully held her solo debut. Her meticulous and patient teaching style encourages children to learn in a very warm and supported way. Our guest teacher, soprano Yongzheng, is a young singer who has held an active career on Broadway for many years. She is currently part of the Lion King production. Her rich stage experience offers exciting insights that she brings into her classes.
Singing doesn’t start on the page, or with the first note. It starts with the way you breathe, and how you stand. If you want to improve your singing, in addition to training your voice, it is imperative to master breath-control.
All great singers breathe and sing from the diaphragm - located around your upper belly, so sometimes you will hear “belly breathing”. If this is new to you, try it first by lying on a carpet or any comfortable, firm flat surface, and then practice standing.
It is essential to develop good posture, as it greatly affects how you inhale and exhale, and these cycles then shape your sound. So, before you sing, drop and roll back your shoulders, lift your head up, and then let the magic begin.

We offer entry-level classes for children by teaching them foundational music concepts that spark their imagination. For teenagers, lessons are guided by their innate interest and curiosity, and focus on gradual integration of technique, repertoire, training towards confident performance and a more structured grading framework. An assessment class is in place for those with existing music background.

This course is mainly for adults who love singing but have never taken formal training or once learned but have not had the opportunity to continue learning for a significant period of time. Many of our adult students are currently parents or grandparents themselves. If you have the interest and time to learn, we are happy to have you.
