“Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another,
to cause vibrations in the soul.” – Wassily Kandinsky
The pianoforte, more commonly called the piano, became, by the last quarter of the eighteenth century, a leading instrument of Western music. Its inventor, Bartolomeo Cristofori called his instrument the, “gravicembalo col piano e forte”, which means, “the quiet and strong keyboard instrument”. As such, it requires from its players, a simple yet complex "engineering" and cooperation of the left and right hands. Many players thus become ambidextrous, which is why many studies have delved into the fascinating topic of pianists’ brains. The process of training itself —- making daily practice routine, does a lot to improve both hemispheres of the brain, and will leave rewarding effects that will last a very long time, some even say it will permanently alter one’s way of thinking.
